While anchored in the factual world, his images and installations explore the evanescent constitution of reality and its interchanges with the notion of the world as an image. Alejo has exhibited at La Havana Biennial, the Trienal Poligrafica de San Juan de Puerto Rico, Centro de la Imagen and The Rufino Tamayo Museum in Mexico City, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain and the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in SF. California; among other venues. He has been artist in residency at NUS, National University of Singapore for site specific projects. He has been recipient of several grants from the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las artes and The New York Foundation for the Arts. His work is part of several public and private collections, among others, Daros Latinomerica Collection in Zurich; Art Museum of the Americas in Washington DC, the Museo Universitario de Artes y Ciencias (MUAC) in Mexico City and the Isabel and Agustín Coppel Collection. He currently lives and works in Mexico City.
